Mike Newman
Mike Newman, Executive Editor of Plano Profile, has been in newspaper and magazine publishing for 40 years. A Dallas native, Mike served in the U.S. Navy as a wartime photographer during the Vietnam War before returning to North Texas, where he started his professional career with a local newspaper.
His editorial leadership at Plano Profile began in 1985, three years after the magazine’s debut in October 1982. Working alongside publisher Jean Newman, Mike established the long-held editorial direction for the publication.
“From the very beginning, my intention was to spotlight volunteer and civic organizations and the people who help them grow and prosper. Plano is a generous-minded community, and I think it’s important to acknowledge the contributions of those leaders and volunteers who step up and serve.”
Mike’s career is further distinguished by his photographic chronicle of Plano. Whether capturing the city’s urban expansion from a helicopter, or focusing on special events with elected officials, civic leaders and involved citizens, Mike’s photographic archives document Plano’s history for the last quarter of a century.
Because of their substantial and positive contributions to this community, Mike and Jean were named Living Legends by Collin College in 2006. Mike has also been involved with PISD’s Teacher of the Year program and in many local and state political campaigns.
