Car Seat Safety Check is an ongoing, free 30-minute class at Texas Health Resources - Plano. Bring the vehicle and the car seat the child will normally ride in. If possible, bring your vehicle owner’s manual and the car seat instruction book. If you have more than one car seat or base, notify the registration center so that you may be given another 30-minute time slot. Unless you are pregnant, you will also need to have the child present at the car seat check. If you have purchased a new seat, remove the seat from the box and attempt to install the seat in your vehicle prior to your appointment. To register, call 1.877.THR.WELL (1.877.847.9355).
Family Outreach of Richardson/Plano is a network of volunteers working to prevent child abuse and neglect through parenting classes that focus on the development, personality and discipline of children newborn–12 and an in-home mentoring program. They are housed inside The Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County, located at 2205 Los Rios Blvd. in Plano. Grandparenting Class provides information on topics such as feeding choices, American Heart Association’s infant CPR, safety issues, car seat safety, and more. “Healing the Addicted Brain” is part of St. Andrew United Methodist Church's free lecture series. Presented by Hal Urschel, MD, Chief Medical Strategist, Enterhealth, the lecture offers a comprehensive look at a new understanding of alcohol/drug addiction and its treatment. The primary purpose is to provide accurate, scientifically-based information about alcohol and drug addiction treatment in order to inspire hope in those suffering from the disease of addiction and their families. Safe Sitter is a class designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 13 that trains participants to be a responsible babysitter. The class teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, appropriate responses to medical emergencies, behavior management skills, and instruction in infant and child CPR.
