An "Enchanted Evening" with the Junior League of Plano

Caralee Gurney and Cristi BoothIt was an "Enchanted Evening" at the Junior League of Plano's soiree at the Historic Cotton Mill in McKinney. Guests enjoyed a martini bar, a gourmet dinner, silent and live auctions, a fully stocked cigar and whiskey lounge in the garden terrace, and live entertainment by Studio 54. Chuck Steelman from Neiman Marcus was emcee of the event.

Guest speaker and astronaut Mary Ellen Weber, who has flown to space twice, wowed the crowd with her experiences traveling "25 times the speed of sound" at 17,500 mph. "At night, the cities pop out like jewelry," she explained, "and there's nothing like 3Gs pushing through your chest." Weber now serves as vice president of Government Affairs and Policy at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Stacy Cooper Three Collin County community leaders were honored at the soiree: Julie Moore, a former CITY House resident who currently serves on the Board of Directors; Rocio Garcia, who came to Plano not being able to speak English but participated in the Plano Family Literacy initiative and is now an aid for the program; and Polly Harrison who was part of Pier's Project at Medical Center of Plano when she gave birth to her premature twin boys and is currently on the Collin County Child Welfare board and is president of her Mothers of Multiples support group.
