Plano libraries dedicate public art
inspired by Texas Poet Laureate Alan Birkelbach
Plano's five public libraries – Haggard, Harrington, chimelpfenig, Davis, and Parr – dedicated a
collection of public art to the community on October 8
that was inspired by poems written by Texas Poet Laureate Alan Birkelbach. The art installations were designed by Teresa Camozzi, a San Francisco, CA,
native who specializes in mixed-media. The themes
of the art and poems focus on aspects of Plano's
history and cutlure.
Birkelbach presented about 30 poems to the libraries
who then picked five to have illustrated through art.
Each installation will be illustrated in a book called Translating the Prairie–The Story of Plano in Words
and Pictures.
As part of the City of Plano's public art program, managed by the Public Art Committee and Creative Arts Division, the budget for the public art was approved and funded by the City Council in 2005.
