Four bright and talented Plano Senior High School (PSHS) students won the sixth annual Academic WorldQuest competition and advanced to nationals. The students earned an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Press Club in Washington D.C. where nationals will be held on Saturday, April 24.
The competition is a trivia contest on international affairs hosted by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. Team members Andrea Tan, Sangeetha Mylvaganam, Prateek Bhattacharya, David Ho, and their coach Tim Murray
This was the second year in a row that a team from PSHS has won the local competition. Finishing in second place was Frisco's Liberty High School (Silver Team), and in third place was Plano’s Jasper High School (Team 3).
“These students study a great deal in preparation for the event,” said Pat Murray, chairman of the World Affairs Council. “WorldQuest is a great opportunity for them to become more acquainted with current events and world affairs.”
Almost 300 students on 72 teams from more than 30 North Texas high schools competed and tested their knowledge in areas such as food production and consumption, international migration trends, genocide, world music, the Caribbean Islands, the Sultanate of Oman, the World Cup, pandemics, and current events.
Academic WorldQuest is a program of the World Affairs Council’s International Education Program, which educates students on how global issues affect our everyday lives. The program empowers students to become informed, independent thinkers about world affairs. For more information, visit dfwworld.org.
